Okay, that was an incredibly bad joke up there in the title… but bear with me.
Alex, My Lovely Lady, had learned that it is Celiac’s Awareness Month and that several stores, including Germany based Aldi grocers, is carrying a limited time supply of Gluten Free items.
Oh… it was on like Donkey Kong…
Whatever that means.
Was some giant gorilla going to kidnap my wife and toss barrels at me until I delivered some Gluten Free goodies to him? Oh dear.
Ahem. I digress.
Knowing that Aldi’s is only open from 9am to 9pm and that all the good discounts are in the first half hour or so, we decided to get up at 6am and leave at 7am to be there at opening.
We got there at 9:45, so… we could work on our planning. Austin, man… and I-35. Yeesh.
So anyway, we finally get there and start looking.
And… the brownie mixes… cake mixes… COOKIES!!! THAT WE CAN EAT!
Yes, I must admit, we … we had our way with the grocery aisles. We found Gluten Free Granola for me, Gluten Free PB&J bites for her, baking mixes for us, just… ALL OF IT! Oh, and a cheesecake sampler for some special date nights.
Our entire Aldi’s trip, shown here in the cart (Don’t forget your quarters!) and cooler (to keep things chill on the trip home) was less then our food budget!
And, since we had money left over, we just HAD to go to Sprouts! (Actually, we did. Somethings Aldi’s does not have, like our A2 Milk.)
And, then, we still had some money, so we went to Whole Foods for some Bacon and Sausage.
AND THEN… we saved enough to go on a drive to Marble Falls and eat out at Chili’s!
And so, after I brought the cooler and such up the stairs in a manly fashion and totally impressed my wife… or maybe my cat… well, me anyway… AHEM. We arranged it all out on the table to take pictures and brag, as is our due.
So, here are those pictures.
And what was our grand total, you ask?
Yep. It would have probably cost us over $400 to get like items at Walmart, HEB, Target, etc. And we like those stores, (mostly), but the deals we just too good.
Gluten Free, for Cheap?
We were looking for love in Aldi right places…
